The overwhelming victory against The Bog is behind him, and Itou Kaiji -- now free of debt but without a penny to his name -- is slacking off at Sakazaki's house. Sakazaki attempts to kick him out with a "we never knew each other" fee of 3 000 000 yen. While Kaiji wavers between accepting the money and retaining what little dignity he's got left, he's visited by Miyoshi and Maeda, two of the people he'd saved earlier, who make an offer he finds difficult to resist.
